Answers to Metabolic Syndrome question
My doctor has never mentioned Metabolic Syndrome to me. But based on what I'm reading here I think I fit the criteria. What's up with that?

What you're saying happened to me too. I guess not everyone recognizes Metabolic Syndrome as an actual diagnosable condition and in fact you may or may not have it depending on whose definition you're looking at. Most traditional doctors treat the individual symptoms with drugs. But if you go to Pub Med you'll see tons of articles on how lifestyle medicine can help Metabolic Syndrome. Good thing you joined StopChronicDisease.com, where you can find docs who actually practice LM!
Hello JosieDavison,
I can understand how this can be confusing. In the first place the previous answer brought up a good point, and I would add that most doctors are not system oriented and certainly not typically taking a holistic approach but rather organ and symptom oriented.
Next, a syndrome according to Dorland’s Medical Dictionary is a combination of symptoms that either result from a single cause or occur together so commonly that they constitute a distinct clinical picture. Because this is actually a pre-diabetic state involving many organs and multiple systems many symptoms are not clear or distinct.
There are a number of tests that can be used to indicate metabolic syndrome such as glucose, insulin, blood lipids and body composition to name a few.
